What is International Tea Day?

International Tea Day, observed annually on May 21st, is a celebration of tea's rich cultural and economic significance worldwide. Established by the United Nations, this day highlights the profound impact of tea on culture, history, and sustainable development. Tea, enjoyed by millions across the globe, is not only a cherished beverage but also a source of employment and income for millions of smallholder farmers in developing countries. International Tea Day promotes sustainable tea production, fair trade, and the importance of protecting tea's heritage, ensuring that this ancient tradition continues to thrive for generations to come.

This year, International Tea Day highlights women (ummmm YES!!!) and their role in the tea sector. It is also an opportunity to celebrate the cultural heritage, health benefits and economic importance of tea, while working to make its production sustainable “from field to cup” ensuring its benefits for people, cultures and the environment continue for generations.
